Jeju

Three black-and-white film photographs shot while traveling Jeju.

Sanjeong (山頂) — A chance encounter with Sanbangsan, its massive rock face seeming to surge forward. Shot in black and white to reveal the cliff's texture and sheer weight through contrast rather than color. The title draws on a Jeju legend that Sanbangsan is the summit of Hallasan, cut off and cast away.

Sosaekchaebon — A scene stumbled upon at a café called Sosaekchaebon during a family trip: hand-dyed handkerchiefs fluttering in the spring wind beyond the window, framed exactly as seen from inside.

Rapeseed, Overflowing — An endless rapeseed field rendered in black and white, so viewers would imagine its yellow for themselves. The hope was that spring's fullness would come through more vividly once the color was stripped away.

제주를 여행하며 담은 흑백 필름 사진 세 점.

산정(山頂) — 산방산과 우연히 마주친 순간, 쏟아질 듯 다가오는 거대한 암벽을 흑백 필름으로 담았다. 색이 아닌 명암으로 암벽의 질감과 압도감을 드러내고자 했다. 산방산이 한라산 정상이 잘려 나온 것이라는 제주 설화에서 제목을 가져왔다.

소색채본 — 가족 여행 중 들른 카페 '소색채본'에서 우연히 마주친 장면. 창 너머로 직접 염색한 손수건들이 봄바람에 휘날리는 모습을, 창 안에서 바라본 시선 그대로 담았다.

유채, 범람 — 끝없이 펼쳐진 유채꽃밭을 흑백으로 담아, 보는 이가 노란빛을 스스로 상상하게 만들고 싶었다. 색을 지운 자리에서 봄의 충만함이 더 선명하게 드러나길 바랐다.
